"Lemon No. 5"

This week’s featured painting is “Lemon No. 5” from 2010.  It is done with oil on panel, and measures 4 x 4 inches.

Perhaps more than any other form of painting, still life encourages a slow, careful, and thoughtful approach.

Rather than quickly dashing things off, colors and forms are studied and considered at length.

The painter who adopts this approach soon realizes – for instance – that lemons are not just generic lemons.

Rather, like the human face, each one is distinct, beautiful, and wonderful in its own way.
