"Family No. 3"

This week’s featured painting is “Family No. 3” from 2022.  It is done with oil on panel, and measures 2 x 5  inches.

There are a few vivid memories from childhood that stand out to me for their strength and clarity.

These are not just static mental images, but powerful, immersive experiences that make me feel like I am transported right back there in that moment.

One of these memories is from when I was in the fourth grade, playing marbles during recess on the playground with my friend Jeremy.

Nothing noteworthy happened during that game, but the memory is still crystal clear to me decades later.

I can feel the crisp October air in my nostrils, and see the stunning clear blue Michigan sky stretching vast from horizon to horizon. I can feel the rich brown earth beneath me as we knelt to take our shots, and the sharp crack as one marble struck another.

It’s just a simple memory, but for some reason, I cherish deeply.
